Once you upgrade, only the number of licenses still under maintenance will be activated for continued recording. Expired licenses will stop working. Each license comes with a year of free maintenance plus any additional purchased time. Before upgrading, call 888‑598‑2788 or go to Veriato.com to request your license maintenance status from our renewal team.

If you are upgrading from version 9.0 R2 and have changed your primary Veriato Server URL to accommodate offsite clients (or for another reason), before upgrading, return the server address to its original device address. Communication with the server will be on hold while you upgrade. When the upgrade is complete, use the version 9.0.2 Server Address Changer to change back to the desired address. See Changing the Server Address.

SA is replaced by the new "Master"
Your existing SA password is required to begin the upgrade, but when the upgrade is complete, SA will be replaced by the new Master login account
you create during the "Account" step of the upgrade process.
All SA access control rights and configuration are migrated to the Master account.
"Master" accounts change
When upgraded, your version 8.5 "Master" users
have full access control, even if they previously didn’t have it. You might want to change some of these to "Standard" with custom permissions.
Existing "Standard" accounts change
When upgraded, your version 8.5 "Standard" users lose some customized, more elevated access and can access only
top-level data-viewing items. You can modify these accounts to restore their previous privileges.
Network accounts are converted to SQL
In version 9.0 and 9.0.1, only SQL login accounts are used. Existing logins set to authenticate as Windows network users are migrated to SQL accounts. The new username for each SQL account
is a combination of the previous domain\username. For example, "MYDOMAIN\jsmith" becomes user "mydomain-jsmith." Passwords are not migrated, so you need to set new ones! Once logged in,
the user can control his or her own password as before.
The new Management Console is designed to manage only Veriato Recorders (rather than all network devices). Its discovery capability and integration with Active Directory make it easy to find the devices on your network that are not yet recorded using your existing network tools. Consequently, a device migrated from 8.5 with no associated user data may not appear in your "Recorders" list following upgrade.
The new, more powerful database instance uses a single database (no "Data Vault") rather than multiple "storage" databases. SQL Server Express users with multiple storage databases are encouraged to upgrade to SQL Server Standard 2016. Upgrading SQL Server from Express to Standard will automatically combine mutliple storage databases into a single, unlimited size database. Several options are provided in Veriato Upgrade Guide.
Archives are no longer necessary. If you install with SQL Standard 2016, you can migrate all databases AND all archives into the new database. Contact Veriato Technical Support if you have questions.
When you migrate data to version 9.1, duplicate records are not permitted. As a result, you may have fewer data records than before. This should not change your views of user activity.
Following installation, be sure to take a tour through the Management Console and explore new and redesigned features. You will need to re-create 360 Event Alerts, enable on any SIEM Exporting, and possibly adjust other settings. (Auditing and Server Web Filtering are no longer available.)
